I went to another ball game and the small band played well.
The football team played great but the team they played, well they played better.
It still was a shock to see what what has happened to the band.
There should be a law requiring each school to field at least 50 young women and young men on a football field.
It was so sad to see a field so big and so green and to see so few children marching and playing music on it.
There was something else that bothered me last night out there as I watched the ball game.
The field was so green and kept so pristine marked evenly in white chalk lines….
And I looked to the sidelines just off the field and I saw hundreds of folks yelling and screaming, cheering their team.
Very proud parents and friends gathered together to see those young players play.
The football team, the cheerleaders and the band…
And on the ground below their feet were bottles and trash.
As if they knew that someone else was going to clean it up.
All those slogans about picking up trash, all those adds about littering were for only the children of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
The parents and the children of the new millenium think that they are too good to pick up their own trash.
Well I did enjoy the game and I’ll go see another but it will be very sad to see the small band on the pristine clean field playing
to their families with trash under their feet.
